Have you ever wondered, "What IS the significance of a single hamartomatous polyp in the colon?" May I refer you to an excellent article by Dr. Elizabeth Montgomery using retrospective data from Johns Hopkins.... Do Sporadic Peutz-Jehgers Polyps Exist? Experience of a Large Teaching Hospital. ASJP, 2007 Aug;31(8):1209-14 In case you don't have time to read it -- their data suggest that if sporadic PJ polyps exist, they are rare. Patients with even one PJ polyp may have an increased lifetime risk of cancer similar to PJ syndrome patients.
