This rosette forming glioneuronal tumor is a low grade tumor that arises in the floor of the IVth ventricle and has a propensity to extend up the aqueduct. It is a good mimic of the pilocytic astrocytoma and and the cerebellar neurocytoma, more recently known as medulloblastoma with extensive nodularity, but can be distinguished by its formation of small papillary-like islands of synaptophysin reactive neuropil surrounded by small neurocytic cells. It is also associated with bands of neuropil that contains matrure neurons. |
